Developing & polishing writing skills.
WHY IS WRITING SO IMPORTANT?
A student’s ability to write is a key predictive indicator of both college acceptance and subsequent collegiate success.
WHY ARE WRITING CLASSES AND TUTORING NECESSARY?
Collegiate academic advisors identify writing as the largest skill gap they see in high school graduates. Even kids who are receiving good grades in English are not necessarily learning and developing adequate writing skills because:
- High school English, and other classes that require written assignments, are not primarily focused on developing the skill of writing
- Written work is often peer-reviewed for practical reasons, due to the sheer number of students per teacher
- Electronic media is often poorly written and has morphed the English language into an entirely new one
OUR APPROACH
Writing is a skill that cannot be learned without hands-on practice and, ideally, under skilled guidance. We help kids get excited about writing, focus on the practice of writing, and provide encouraging review and coaching as they learn.
We have a unique approach to teaching writing that incorporates all aspects of the writing challenge:
- Turning ideas and thought into language
- Mastering the structure of language
- Building writing skills
We use an agile learning process/practice that creates the best opportunity for kids to learn quickly—and to remember what they’ve learned. Agile is an approach that makes developing complex things more efficient, timely, and focused on producing the desired result.
